The Trip Of a Lifetime - Baja In Your Vanagon
Peace Vans has partnered with the amazing team at Slow Baja to offer the first, VW exclusive, guided trip down the Baja Peninsula.
The STory
Baja has always held a special part in the heart of Peace Vans. Our connection to the land goes back over 30 years and it is a place we dream about nearly every day. For 3 years, starting in 2022, we rented a fleet of Vanagons out of La Paz and created hundreds of amazing memories for people. We exited the rental program but our hearts were left in Baja. Earlier this year, we got a call from our good friend Michael Emery who runs Slow Baja - a unique guide service for vintage and other road trips in Baja. Michael asked about a “VW Only” trip and we were so excited we said “YES!!!” on the spot…and here we are!

The food will be exceptional. Everything from home cooked “ranch” style breakfasts, to exquisite road side tacos (frequent) to truly gourmet, fireside cooked dinners under the stars. You’ll have lots of opportunities to provision your own snacks and drinks
-
Your added costs will be limited to vehicle insurance (required in Mexico and our friends at Baja Bound can steer you to the perfect package), fuel, and small snacks, drinks and the occasional lunch.

Slow Baja is the guided Baja tour expert. Michael has been running incredible trips down the peninsula for many years and has built deep relationships and has incredible access to resources. Slow Baja also hosts the most popular Baja podcast and is a great source for other Baja news.

Baja is an extremely safe destination for not just group travel but also solo travel. If you aspire to solo travel but aren’t quire sure - this is an amazing opportunity to explore Baja and build your confidence. Also, all of your guides have traveled the peninsula, collectively, over 100 times. Shane Jordan lives in La Paz and is raising a beautiful family there. Baja is extremely safe.

First, we strongly encourage you to do some inpsection service and/or maintenance with your local mechanic. If something does happen on the drive, your trip leaders will have some key spare parts and if it’s a bit deeper than that - the resourcefulness of the local Mexican mechanic scene is truly amazing
-
Not at all! While we will traverse dirt roads and meander off the beaten path, your 2WD Vanagon will do just fine. If you do have a 4WD/Syncro we will offer more challenging routes if you want to “send it”!
